Institutional
Report
The second period of my Practicums is Primary Level. I have chosen Escuela N° 155 Máximo Fernandez Coria”, in Comodoro Rivadavia, Chubut. It is a 30 year-old public school and it has 3 divisions of 4th grade, 3 divisions of 5th grade and 2 divisions of 6th grade in the morning shift. In the afternoon shift there are 3 divisions of 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade.
According to information gathered in the interview
with the head, the institution has always been opened to the community in
general. As the only school in its neighbourhood, it is very popular, with
children from surrounding neighborhoods. The school is open to all of them and,
for this reason, it is an institution recognised by the community.
This school also bases its practice on the
constructivist theory, considering that the child builds its own knowledge and
the teacher plays the role of a guide and facilitator. The knowledge that each
child brings to school is very important.
6th grade A is a group of 24 quiet and nice
students. The group is homogeneous. In general, children engage with the work
proposed by the teacher. It is a very peaceful group and many children are
introverted and shy and so they find it difficult to express themselves using
their own language, and even more the second language. However, the majority are
children who work hard to overcome difficulties when presented. They have a
very good relationship with their teacher. They are very used to working with her
and lessons are developed normally, without behavioral problems. The classroom
is very large, with enough space to move, make a circle and play games.
